Jenny Gill - The Safevent Window.

As a mental health capital planner I feel that the Safevent window offers a revolutionary solution to the issues of safety, security, privacy and dignity.  Most importantly the window allows service users a greater amount of control over the environment in which they are placed, whilst ensuring that security is maintained.

The window allows more natural ventilation into the room than can be achieved with the standard 100 or 125 mm restricted windows, again allowing the service user a choice in the amount of air they allow into their room.

From the clinical perspective the mesh reduces both perceived and real risks as it is extremely secure, does not create a ligature point and ensures that nothing can be passed through the windows. It affects visibility out of the buildings only slightly through the meshed area whilst the other half of the window remains totally clear.

All in all, the Safevent window is an excellent solution for the mental health environment.
